The care of the Aged has been off-loaded from well run government facilities to the private sector and so called Not for profit organisations...
The so called Not for Profit organisations legally syphon money away from the Aged Care facility to their other areas such as Care for homeless men facilities, all good work and necessary but I object to this form of shuffling cards on the titanic in the name of charity. Believe me, none of us would want to put a frail aged parent in a nursing home if they really knew what goes on in them. Nurses are overworked underpaid and eventually end up not being the carer they once set out to become. Nurses in Aged Care facilities are flogged by their employers all too mean to put on higher levels of staff- because they can't afford it. That's why owning a Nursing Home is so lucrative to the private sector aided and abetted by governments. IE Thompson Health Care in NSW., the Moran Health care group across Australia to name 2. The funding for the Hibiscus Care is long overdue and will only alleviate the problem marginally. When the government shouts to everyone in the southern states to come to Queensland they need to tell them to bring their own infastructure. Yes I am on a hobby horse. Ed. you are right about lack of appropriate shelter for our oldies nothing changes sadly. Cate, Sunshine Coast Daily - Comments Newer articles:
