I really just want to make a comment on buzzers. I noticed one of your questions of things to look out for was: ""How long does it take for staff to respond to the buzzer?""
From my observations there appears to be a constant problem of buzzers being ignored or unplugged. This may be due to understaffing because of the money that was pulled out of aged care during the reign of Howard's 'economy first' regime. One elderly lady told me that she 'presses the button but nobody comes'. Her son told me she presses it all the time. Was he told this by the staff 'too busy' to respond? I couldn't believe he simply accepted this. I have heard it before. I once worked in a retirement estate as a cleaner where one lady told me the same thing, if she presses the button during the night no one ever comes. I made inquiries at the office for her and was told (by the manager) ""she's always pressing that damned button"". Well that's what it's there for isn't it? If someone needs help they're supposed to be able to get it when they need it. I thought to myself, what if that was MY mother. Most of these types of problems could be solved with more money for more staff in aged care where it is badly needed. Pam Newer articles:
