"...Could you please advise what the situation is concerning MRSA/golden staph in NSW/Australia Aged care facilities. My grandmother has recently been admitted to hospital where they swabbed a wound on her sacrum. It came back +ve for MRSA. At the same hospital in the isolation section, is another woman from the same facility with MRSA. My family have visited my grandmother at the facility for the past 2 years. We have had several issues with the staff/administration and have had "full investigation" by Aged care complaints comedians. I managed to get the home non-compliant in 1 area but they decided not to issue Notification for remedy because the facility said they were going to fix it at the meeting... I am planning my approach for this next round carefully, as I really want to make them see what they are doing is marginalising my grandmothers rights and care. I think it is wrong that myself and my family are not given information concerning the facilities infectious disease situation when we are visiting. One woman at the facility has a dressed wound on her head for the past 2 years, I am concerned that firstly correct infection control procedures were not followed, and secondly that I am not provided with information that can be life threatening when I visit. I am warned not to visit if I have a cold/unwell, but I receive no information if there is an infection in the facility because it is a non-reportable disease..." Newer articles:
