Call for submissions – review of the residential aged care accreditation process

The Department of Health and Ageing is currently reviewing the accreditation process for residential aged care homes and is seeking comment from organisations and individuals with an interest in improving the process.

Accreditation forms an integral part of the Australian Government’s approach to quality in residential aged care. Accreditation involves an independent team of assessors evaluating the achievements of an aged care home against a pre-determined set of standards.

The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing is currently reviewing the accreditation process and is seeking comment from organisations and individuals with an interest in improving the residential aged care accreditation process. The outcome of the review will inform options for improving the accreditation process for the Minister for Ageing’s consideration.

The attached discussion paper has been developed to facilitate discussion and debate.

Submissions are invited from interested organisations and individuals to inform the review. Submissions may address some or all of the issues raised in the discussion paper and may also address other matters that are considered relevant to the accreditation process.
